Statement about the 6/10 Incident on Campus

There was a tragic incident this morning outside the UNC Health Johnston Clayton hospital involving a law enforcement altercation with a person on the campus. A sheriff deputy shot the person, who later died. There was no ongoing threat at the hospital campus.

We are thankful that no hospital employees, patients or visitors were harmed and appreciate the rapid response by law enforcement.

Our security team will review the incident with law enforcement to ensure that all proper procedures were followed. We use this sort of situation to improve how we respond to a wide range of scenarios. Our top priority is the health and safety of everyone who visits our hospital campus.
