Toni Currin, PharmD, MBA, MSCR

Dr. Currin is the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program Director and Pharmacy Manager at UNC Health Johnston. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy, Master of Business Administration, and Master of Science in Clinical Research degrees from the Campbell University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She is currently working on completing her Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Health Systems Management from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She worked in emergency medicine for several years before transitioning into pharmacy administration. She serves as a preceptor for students and residents for pharmacy administration, research, and oversees the UNC Teaching Certificate Program at UNC Health Johnston. Dr. Currin has enjoyed the process of developing the new program and looks forward to witnessing the program’s growth and the positive impact it will have on pharmacy practice.

    Dr. Willoughby is the Director of Pharmacy serving both UNC Health Johnston locations. He provides pharmacy leadership across inpatient, ambulatory care, and retail pharmacy. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Campbell University’s College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and his Master's Degree in Business Administration and Health Administration from Pfeiffer University. He is board-certified and currently a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the American College of Healthcare Executives. Dr. Willoughby works with PGY1 residents on projects, provides instruction on hospital billing and the 340B pricing program, and offers guidance and leadership throughout the program.

    Trent Beach, PharmD, MBA, MHA, BCPS, CPEL, FASHP, FACHE is the Executive Director of Pharmacy for the Triangle East Region of UNC Health. In this role, Beach provides executive pharmacy leadership at the 5 hospitals that comprise UNC Health Johnston, UNC Health Rex, and UNC Health Southeastern. Over Dr. Beach’s career, he has been responsible for clinical quality, medication use policy, medication safety, and clinical pharmacy practice across integrated health enterprises. Dr. Beach is board-certified in Pharmacotherapy. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Kentucky and completed a General Clinical Pharmacy Residency at the University of North Carolina Hospitals following his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy Practice from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Beach holds master’s degrees in business administration and healthcare administration from the Wilmington University School of Business.

    Dr. Beach is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Fellow of the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists, an ASHP Certified Pharmacy Executive Leader, and a Master Examiner with the NIST Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Program, administered through the U.S. Department of Commerce. Beach has served in a number of volunteer leadership roles, including immediate past Regent for Tennessee with ACHE, past President of ACHE-Middle Tennessee, and Chair of the ASHP Section Advisory Group on Managing the Pharmacy Enterprise, to name a few. In 2017, Beach was awarded the Tennessee Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists Health System Distinguished Service Award in recognition of career achievements.

    Amanda Perkins, PharmD, BCPS

    Dr. Perkins serves as the Clinical Pharmacist Coordinator at UNC Health Johnston, where she plays a pivotal role in enhancing patient care through her expertise in pharmacotherapy. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Wingate University School of Pharmacy and subsequently completed a Post-Graduate Year One (PGY-1) acute care residency at Cape Fear Valley Harnett Health. As a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist, Dr. Perkins also holds a teaching certificate from Campbell University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, reflecting her commitment to education and mentorship. In her previous role as an inpatient clinical pharmacist, she demonstrated her dedication to training the next generation of pharmacists by serving as a preceptor for both PGY-1 pharmacy residents and pharmacy students at Cape Fear Valley Harnett Health.

    At UNC Health Johnston, Dr. Perkins leads our antimicrobial stewardship efforts and is actively engaged in formulary management and medication safety initiatives, ensuring that the highest standards of pharmaceutical care are maintained. She also contributes to critical care services and participates in code team responses. Dr. Perkins is deeply passionate about expanding and improving clinical pharmacy services, and she is committed to advancing pharmacy practice at UNC Health Johnston. Her dedication to patient care and professional development makes her an invaluable asset to the Johnston team.

    Lynn Burrell, RPh

    Lynn Burrell, RPh

    PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Preceptor

    Lynn holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. With over 25 years of experience as a retail pharmacist, she has dedicated 20 years to CVS and an additional 5 years at Food Lion Pharmacy. For the past 11 years, Lynn has served as a staff pharmacist in the inpatient pharmacy at UNC Health Johnston. Her responsibilities extend beyond traditional staffing roles; she is actively involved in clinical work and plays a key role in training newly hired pharmacists. Lynn is a member of the Good Catch Committee, where she contributes to enhancing patient safety and medication management practices. Currently, she is responsible for monitoring controlled substances and drug diversion, supervises our Medication Reconciliation technicians in the Emergency Department, and is the liaison for our SECU Hospice House. She serves on multiple local and UNC Health System committees and teaches new nurses during their hospital orientation. Lynn’s extensive experience and commitment to excellence make her an asset to the pharmacy team.

    Jay Renfrow, PharmD

    Dr. Renfrow is the pharmacy manager at UNC Health Johnston Hematology and Oncology Center in Smithfield. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Campbell University School of Pharmacy. He completed a one-year ASHP accredited Hospital Pharmacy Residency at The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and a one-year Adult Internal Medicine Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida. Following residency training, he completed a one-year fellowship with the Heart Failure Program at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. He serves as a preceptor for pharmacy students and PGY1 residents in addition to sitting on several local and UNC Health System committees. Dr. Renfrow has been an indispensable member of the PGY-1 pharmacy residency program. His commitment to teaching and ensuring an exceptional experience in the Cancer Center makes him a vital part of our team. Students and residents frequently share how remarkable their experiences are with him and how evident his passion for his work truly is.
