UNC Health Care Partnership

In 2014, UNC Health Johnston finalized a partnership with UNC Health Care, paving the way for a collaboration that will improve the health and wellness of residents of Johnston County and surrounding areas for generations to come.

With many changes taking place in health care, we sought this partnership to help us continue providing the best possible care to growing communities. UNC Health Care’s nationally-recognized advancements in teaching and research will bring more specialty services and advanced care to our patients.

UNC Health Johnston and UNC Health Care will work together on a strategic plan to expand the care and services available in Johnston County, with a goal of providing more access to much-needed services. This could include more cardiovascular, oncology, obstetric, pediatric, orthopedic and rehabilitation services.

UNC Health Care provided $57.6 million in exchange for part ownership of the newly formed Johnston Health Services Corp.  A new board, comprised of 11 commissioners from UNC Health Johnston and six from UNC Health Care, will oversee the daily operations of UNC Health Johnston’s campuses in Smithfield and Clayton. The first and biggest project of the partnership was expanding UNC Health Johnston Clayton into a full service, 50-bed hospital. We look forward to expanding our services to offer the best health care to our community.
