HealthQuest: Fitness Hints & Tips

Whether it’s through swimming, playing a good game of basketball on the court, or working out on our spectacular equipment and machines, it is always vital to remember to practice good safety measures all the while. Here are some helpful hints and tips on how to keep our members safe and facility fun for all!

When exercising at any workout facility, there are three key aspects that will ensure your workout is safe and fully successful in increasing your overall health status and fitness level.

  • Warming up. Warming up your muscles is the most important part of the process towards becoming more fit and healthy. Muscles are sort of like rubber bands, if you will. Therefore, if you stretch them too far while they are still cold and un-worked, something is likely to snap; and nobody wants that. To avoid injuries like so, warm up those muscles by doing a little dynamic stretching, jogging at an easy pace, or through engaging in some sort of activity at a slow but consistent pace for at least 5-10 minutes.
  • Knowing proper technique and form. It isn’t about the amount of weight you can lift or how many repetitions you can get through; it’s your technique throughout it all that truly counts. Improper form or lifting too much weight can actually put one in the emergency room, believe it or not. If you haven’t exercised with equipment or machines in a while, that’s perfectly okay. HealthQuest has licensed and American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) certified personal trainers that can help, with a number of packages and programs to choose from! Being taught proper technique and form is imperative in making sure you become fit correctly, while guaranteeing safety in the meantime.
  • Cooling down. After a good long workout, who doesn’t want to just go straight home and call it a day? However, in order to prevent dizziness and/or fatigue, a proper cool down session is truly a must. Cooling down actually reduces your heart and breathing rates gradually, helping reduce the chance of lethargy or light-headedness. And let’s be honest, nobody likes either of those feelings. So always remember to take time to cool down, whether it is through stretching for 2-3 minutes or walking it off. It makes all the difference in how you’ll feel, promise!

While using our facility to improve your overall health status is a true pleasure to us, we must always remember to be courteous of other members at the same time. Socializing is a great way in passing the time while maintaining a fit and healthy lifestyle, no doubt. However, let’s be sure we use time efficiently so that all who so desire can have a turn on exercise equipment and machines! If you need to make a call, or need a quick break to browse social media(s) on your phone, no worries; we’ve all been there. Let’s just please try and keep it away from equipment and other members getting their work out on! Furthermore, being sure to put away any gym equipment such as yoga mats, barbells or dumbbell’s so we can keep a clean and safe work out zone that will prevent any potential trip hazards from taking place.
