6 Benefits of Drinking Water

Your body is made up of about 60% water. Without it, your organs would not be able to work properly. Water flushes toxins out of vital organs, carries nutrients, and provides a moist environment for ear, nose and throat tissue. Your immune system is able to function properly and fight off illness because of water. You also need water to digest your food and get rid of waste. Water is vital to keep your body functioning, so it’s important to make sure you’re drinking enough.

How Much Water Do You Need?

So how much water do you need to be drinking? The Institute of Medicine says that an adequate intake is roughly 3 liters of total beverages a day for men and 2.2 liters for women. About 20% of your daily water intake comes from foods, so you would need to consume the rest through water or other beverages. Here is the recommended daily beverage intake for men and women in addition to water consumed through food:Water

Men: 2.4 liters = about 80 ounces = 10 (8 oz) cups of water per day

Women: 1.76 liters = about 60 ounces = 7.5 (8 oz) cups of water per day

Benefits of Drinking Water

Here are six reasons to make sure you’re drinking enough water or other fluids every day:

  1. Water keeps you young – Drinking plenty of water keeps your skin moisturized and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  2. Drinking water is good for your joints – Your joints need moisture in order to remain strong and flexible so that your movements are smooth and pain free.
  3. Water makes you smarter – Water increases your cognitive function. Your brain needs a lot of oxygen in order to function at optimal levels.
  4. Water protects your heart – It may sound crazy, but drinking a large amount of water could  possibly help prevent heart attacks.
  5. You can lose weight from drinking water – Water suppresses your appetite, so you don’t eat as much. Drinking plenty of water also prevents fluid retention.
  6. Drinking water keeps you alert – Dehydration is a huge cause of fatigue. By drinking water you will be more alert and active during the day.

  2. It was great how you said that water keeps a person looking young because it keeps the skin moisturized and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I have a feeling that ordering and drinking more water will benefit my mom. She has been complaining about her wrinkles for some time now but has no time to use anti-aging products. This is her best bet. Thanks for sharing!

  3. I think that you make a good point that water will help you prevent heart attacks if you drink a lot of it. My home’s water doesn’t taste very good, so I don’t drink it very much. It seems like that’s something I should stop doing. I think that maybe I’d like to find a water delivery service that could give me some that tastes good to me.
