12 Ways to Stay Active During Cold Weather

Staying fit and keeping an exercise schedule can be hard. And in the colder months, staying active can be even harder. To help, here are a few ways to stay active during cold weather for you and your family.

  1. Yoga or Pilates are great ways to stay limber and to take a stress break. This can be done in a gym, studio, or your home.
  2. Take a swim in a local indoor pool or check out the community recreation center.
  3. Bowling is a great way to get some exercise in while also having fun.
  4. Highly active video games such as Wii boxing or Dance Dance Revolution are easy for the whole family and also is a good way to compete with friends and family.
  5. Have a dance party in your living room.
  6. Play an indoor game of tag or hide and seek.
  7. Build an imaginary world by creating a fort with you furniture, pillows and blankets.
  8. Take the whole family rock climbing.
  9. Pull out an active board game such as Twister, Charades, Guesstures, or Footloose.
  10. Take a day trip to the museum or aquarium. Children’s museums usually have ways for kids to actively participate.
  11. Bring your outdoor toys inside. Clear a space in the basement, family room, or garage.
  12. Create an indoor kid’s gym with a mini indoor trampoline, hula hoops, stability ball, and jump ropes.
