Hospice House FAQs

How are patients admitted?
All patients admitted to the hospice house must meet hospice eligibility criteria or already be enrolled in a hospice program. Please call 919-938-7582 for further information.

Can I contact home care and hospice on my own or do I need a referral?
We welcome all requests for service and will be happy to discuss your options.

How is patient care coordinated?
An interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, nurse’s aides, social workers, bereavement counselors, volunteers, chaplains, patients, and family work together to coordinate care.

What if I can’t afford to stay at the SECU Hospice House?
Hospice care is covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance companies; however, there is a room and board fee for patients receiving residential care.  Charity care is available for those who are not capable of paying the room and board fee. A patient will never be turned away because of inability to pay.

How long can patients stay?
Those receiving acute care can stay until all pain or symptoms are brought under control. Residential patients may stay as long as they meet hospice criteria. Respite stay is covered under the hospice benefit and allows up to five days stay per certification period.
