Wherever you are in Johnston County, we have you covered.
Our emergency departments in Smithfield and Clayton are open around the clock and staffed with board certified emergency physicians. Annually, we treat about 45,000 patients in Smithfield and 32,000 patients in Clayton. Our staff is trained to quickly check in and evaluate patients. We have triage rooms for nurses to assess patient’s conditions, private treatment rooms equipped to handle general emergencies, and observation rooms to accommodate patients who need extended stays. Johnston Health’s emergency room staffs deliver reliable, patient-centered care.
Chest Pain Accreditation
In May of 2013 both Smithfield and Clayton received Chest Pain Accreditation from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care, ensuring that all patients will receive the best possible care when suffering from a heart attack.

Patient Information Sheet
Johnston Health and Johnston County EMS have teamed up to create a patient information sheet. Patients need to fill out this form ahead of time and place on their refrigerator at home. When EMS is activated, they can collect this sheet with all the patients’ information on it and bring the form with the patient to the ED. This provides EMS and the ED with correct information. Find out how this program is being used across the state.
