Hospice Care: At Home Or With Us

Posted Apr 30, 2013 | Posted in Diseases & Treatments

Dealing with a life-limiting illness is a difficult time for patients and their families.  There are many care options available, and it is often hard to make decisions during such an emotional ordeal.  Many families choose hospice care for their loved ones so they can spend their final months together in peace and comfort.

What Is Hospice Care?

Hospice care focuses on palliative rather than curative treatments for terminally ill patients.  The goal is to reduce pain and suffering so the patient can live as full a life as possible.  Hospice care can take place in the patient’s home or at an inpatient center. Care providers usually include physicians, nurses, aides, social workers, volunteers and chaplains. The care team works to provide physical and emotional comfort to the patient and their loved ones.
